Where Small Details Make a Big Difference

At PJ’s Roofing Inc., it’s the little things that count.
The Frederick business, established more than a decade ago, has made its name as a full-service roofing contractor.
Continuing the traditions that brought him success in the first place, owner Paul “P.J.” Nicholson said he still takes small jobs and treats people—employees and customers alike—with courtesy and respect.
“We accept all jobs—from the smallest little repairs to large roof replacement projects,” Nicholson said. “What has made us successful over the years is that people call around town and the majority of companies are not interested in the small jobs. When those customers are ready for the roof replacement, they remember that we were willing to help them out when they needed their roof repaired.”
This attention to the small things shows in not only every job, but also in the way Nicholson runs the company on a day-to-day basis.
“I oversee every aspect of the company to ensure that our customers are completely satisfied,” he said. “I have always run the company treating people how I would like to be treated. When we visit our potential customers, we look at it as an opportunity to educate the customer about the condition of the roof, so they can make an informed decision about what fits their budget best.”
That generosity of spirit carries over to his large team of installers, estimators and technicians. Nicholson aims to train and retain employees over the long term, meaning roofers are familiar with the area, have long-standing connections with customers and vendors, and are very familiar with P.J.’s Roofing business practices.
“We have very little turnover,” Nicholson said. “Happy employees will continue promoting the company every day. On a daily basis, we get compliments about the crews. The majority of the time customers put little notes about their experience in the envelope when they send in the payments.”
