The headline says it all. In case you haven’t heard about the Maryland Music Awards, well … let’s just go ahead and grab some words from the event’s website, shall we:
“At the end of 2014 Maryland will hold its first Maryland Music Awards at Rams Head Live in Baltimore. This will be a televised event that is scheduled to be an hour and a half special on Fox TV after Super Bowl week 2015. The purpose of this event is not only to acknowledge the great musical talent and community that Maryland has to offer, but also to raise money to help children with cancer. So here’s how it works. We need you to help us nominate both bands and single performers in various categories. We will then count up all the nominations for the bands and performers in each of the categories. The bands with the most nominations will be selected. That will give us anywhere from 3 to 5 finalists in each category. The final winners will be judged by a group of industry professionals that will consist of radio and television personalities, studio engineers, producers, booking agents, entertainment lawyers, entertainment writers, and club owners. You can nominate artists by clicking here. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 1, which, by our calculations at least, is Monday. On the fifth of this month, a press conference will then commence and the finalists for each award will be announced. In case you were wondering, yes, Dave Grohl is on the voting panel. Because really: What would an awards ceremony be if Dave Grohl wasn’t on the voting panel? Nothing, we tell you. Nothing.
So, why do this? That’s easy: If you haven’t noticed by now (and if you haven’t, then we haven’t been doing our job here at Frederick Playlist, and shame on us), Frederick has a TON of great local musical talent (notice the capital letters). So, why not help some of them out by writing in one (or 15) of them for a nomination? It’s free. It might take 45 seconds (a minute-and-a-half if you’ve never turned on a computer before). And, most importantly, it helps the surrounding areas know that Frederick can be – and SHOULD BE (again with the capital letters) – considered among the most fruitful crops of local music this state has to offer.
This would normally be the part where we would upload a video or two to help remind you of that aforementioned great, budding local talent … but we don’t want to play favorites, now do we? Instead, we’ll just say this again, one more time for effect: GO VOTE!
