The legend is real. We have arrived at the WeDC showcase literally across the street from the Austin Convention Center, the epicenter of SXSW. The sun is setting on the first night of the music festival and things are just starting to ramp up. Free food and drinks are about to flow at the restaurant Crave, tonight’s venue where Heavy Lights will play their first SXSW showcase.
Good band juju is high and Heavy Lights are getting along in the D.C. area showcase like peas and carrots. D.C. is a place where Heavy Lights could get a lot of love and it looks like they’ve made some new friends tonight after their “play it like you mean it,” rocking set.
This is probably the only night I’ll get out of a showcase before 1 a.m., so it’s worth taking a moment to stroll down 5th and 6th streets to absorb the energy from all the hopes and dreams of fans, bands, and industry professionals as we head into a week of nonstop music. It’s mighty morphin’ time, kids. Time to turn up the music blogger super-powers and let the magic of SXSW happen.
