Well, we did this before, about a month ago, so we thought it might be a good idea to do it again. So … .
This Saturday. The 200 East Art Haus (have you heard it’s German now?). That place and that area is going to be rolling and rocking essentially from when the sun comes up to when the night lights paint the Frederick sky and store owners chase customers with baseball bats (did you read that story from the weekend?!). To get all our ducks in a row, as water animals might say, let’s run through the itinerary.
First, the Best Of The Best Fest. This thing will be free all day. Yes. You heard that correctly. Free. All day. Inside, there will be demonstrations (have absolutely no idea what that means), but outside, we will be hosting a Battle Of The Bands, right in front of the beer garden (let’s give a round of a applause to the beer garden).
Here’s how the bands were picked: The Frederick News-Post set up a website where the public could vote on Frederick’s best bands. We tallied up the results and approached the top 10 vote-getting bands, saying that if they wanted to be considered for the Best Of The Best crown, they’d have to show up and perform at our silly, little Best Of The Best Fest on Saturday, August 8. Of those 10, five agreed to move around their schedules to participate (a big high five now goes to those bands!). Of those five, only four wanted to be considered in the competition (Freddie Long, the nice guy that he is, felt a little squeamish about competing against his local music brethren, and we respect that full-heartedly).
So. What’s the schedule for the afternoon music on an outside stage at 200 East? Check it out:
- 1 p.m. Special Delivery
- 2:15 p.m. Freddie Long
- 3:30 p.m. Sticktime
- 4:45 p.m. Hard Swimmin’ Fish
- 6 p.m. The Few
To vote for your favorite act, visit www.fredericknewspost.com/BOB. The winners will receive $500, a write up in the FNP’s special Best Of The Best issue, and, of course, the title of the first-ever Best Of The Best Battle Of The Bands winner. Oh, the prestige.
But golly gee, that’s not all. At 8 p.m. that night, inside 200 East, on the very same stage you saw Seaknuckle, Rozwell Kid and Silent Old Mtns. last month, we have another incredible lineup of music that you will most definitely want to check out. Kabob-O-Taj will perform for your entertainment. Time Columns will perform for your entertainment. And Giraffes? Giraffes! will perform for your entertainment. The cost is $10. The doors open at 7 p.m. The music starts at 8 p.m. There will be Flying Dog. There will be a candy machine. There will be painting. There will be couches. And, of course, there will be rock.
The musicianship in that room will be undeniable. The beer in that room will be irresistible. The fun in that room will be unfathomable. And the memories made in that room will be immeasurable. So come on down. Say hello. Help us keep the momentum for this place going in the right direction. And welcome August with a big, fat, wet math-rock kiss. Happy Monday!
