Well, then. Here we are. The final weekend of August. September is next. Summer is just about gone. And the fall will be wandering its way into our lives (along with a certain festival, of course). So, while things may seem a bit calm for the next three days, it’s only to make way for a storm that’s about to hit sooner rather than later (block party, what?). This weekend, though? This weekend still has some goodies. Our dear friend Karen Jonas (above) will be over in Damascus Saturday night, and if you happen to be looking for greatness on a Saturday night in Maryland, you won’t have to look much further than that. Mark DeRose will be heading down to Carroll Creek this evening for Alive@Five (let’s give it up for no rain this week!). A brand new open mic (one we did not profile a few months ago) is beginning at The Furnace this evening. That will be hosted by Sam Biskin. Jack Z & The Meteors are heading to Olde Towne on Saturday and gosh darn-it, that sounds fun. There’s a jazz jam. There’s Potomac Jazz. There’s the Monocacy Jazz Quartet (see a theme here?). There’s Cookin With Fire. There’s Doug Alan Wilcox. There’s Southern Charm. And, of course, there’s our favorite name of the week, Hot Mess. We’ll be back on Monday to unleash a whole train-load of stuff on the world in anticipation of our first-ever block party next Saturday. There will be some movies. There will be some hip-hop. There will be some rock. There will be a smoker. Yes. A smoker. Get up, get out and do something, as Macy Gray would say. Stay safe. Eat well.
