Well, then. Friday night. What’s up? We’re holding the first event of the year at 200 East! That’s what’s up. And you’ll be there … right? Right?!?
It’s going to be an open mic. This is something we’ve long wanted to organize at the venue as a sort of Open Mic To End All Open Mics. We understand – shoot, we did an entire week on it – that there are a ton of area open mics in and around Frederick. So, we picked a night that was, for the most part, open-mic-free, and thought this: “Wouldn’t it be great to try and bring all the different open mic worlds together under one roof for one night?”
And boom. Here we are.
Granted, we are very aware that nobody cares about us anymore, and it will most likely be a sad, sad evening … but hey: You lose some, and you lose some (no, that wasn’t a typo).
Anyway, check the deets:
The night will be hosted by Local Host Extraordinaire Todd C. Walker. He’s bringing all of the requisite open mic things that one needs in order to perform at an open mic. We will indeed have a sign-up sheet and, depending on how many people show up, we will try to keep performances to somewhere between two and three songs. We will provide microphones, a PA system, all of the essentials. There will also be a drum kit there for anyone who would like to get loud.
Doors open at 6 p.m. The event is free and all ages are welcome. We will be serving adult beverages for those of age, and there will also be other amenities available for those not of age. We’ll start play around 7 p.m. and go until we run out of people (7:18?). If, by the grace of God, things are still rocking and rolling as 11 p.m. approaches, we’ll have to shut it down as the witching hour comes.
Like we said, it’s free, so we hope you’ll stop by for a quick song or two. Say you’re just wandering down Market Street on a beautiful spring Friday evening and you want to hear some local music, stop on in. Say you’ve been waiting to get up on the 200 East stage to show the world that you are the best, stop on in. Say you just want to come by to hit the guy who’s losing his hair, stop on in.
Either way, we hope to see you. Comedy. Poetry. Music. We don’t mind. Get up there and recite the Constitution of the United States of America. That would be great. We’re just trying to support all the wonderful talent around. So, come on in, enjoy the fun, make a friend, make a band, have a beer, say hello to Todd, and reacquaint yourself with 200 East.
It will be worth your time. Promise.
