Well, and a happy Fourth Of July to you, too. There’s a lot of a lot going down musically in and around the Frederick area over the next three days (and to be fair, really, the next five days, but let’s not digress too much here). It begins, as it does in the summertime, with Alive@Five tonight and the Dan McGuire Group. The weather looks better than good, so you really ought to take advantage of it. Also this evening, The Blue Side is hosting a celebration of Merle Haggard music, and damn it if that doesn’t sound like a hell of a night. Cafe Nola, as is typically the case, will host two great local acts – SoulXchange and The Dirty Middle – throughout Friday and Saturday. There are approximately 3,000 people playing 3,000 different places Saturday as part of the normal First Saturday festivities. And then, of course, don’t forget the JoAnn Garrett Classic, which we addressed a couple times this week thanks to interviews with Jason Mecler and Jay Berd. Delenda leads a night ‘o metal this evening. Hard Swimmin’ Fish will be hitting the streets Saturday. Katie Powderly (above) will be opening for The Woodshedders over in Shepherdstown. Some Jack Funk. Some One Night Stand Band. Some Flatfoot Sam. Some open mics. You get it. We’ll be back next week with some fun stuff to talk about. Same time, same place? Enjoy the fireworks.
