It’s the first Tuesday in months that we don’t have a video teasing an actual event that’s going on in the next three days … but we do have a video teasing an event that’s going on within the next four days! Behold our Frederick Playlist Presents … performance of “Wasting Time,” as performed by Karen Jonas. She will be at The Blue Side on Friday for your entertainment, and we were even thinking about possibly stopping by to say hello. Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, you should go!

We weren’t around town this weekend for the always-fun In The Street, but we heard it rained. Also of note: It rained last year, too. Either way, we thought we’d share this shot of The Dixie Power Trio as they performed Saturday. The best part of this is the fact that they are actually a quartet and not a trio. So, there’s that. Anyway, happy Monday! Photo by Graham Cullen. He’s amazing on all of our video work, and you can follow him on Twitter here.
It looks like there will be a lot of rain today, but hey: It’s only 9 a.m. So, while the Downtown Frederick Partnership might very well cancel this evening’s Alive@Five, we thought we’d share this video of the band who is scheduled to play the event anyway. Here’s Moondog Medicine Show with an original tune, “Let My Man Be.” Summer isn’t over quite yet, friends. Celebrate as much tonight (weather permitting, of course), and then get ready for a ruckus In The Street weekend!
This might be our favorite picture from Saturday’s festivities. Check out Stitch Early as he performs at our Block Party. The hands are in the air. The lights are a pretty color. And the flows are flowin’. Happy Hump Day! Photo by Chris Sands. He’s the best Chris Sands in the world and you can follow him on Twitter here.
This was released on Friday, but we’re still giddy about the Block Party at 200 East on Saturday, so we thought we’d launch into this short week by posting it here. Check out the cypher that a good chunk of the artists who performed on Saturday did to help promote the event. In case you missed it … well, shame on you. A fabulous time was had by all (hopefully), and thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all who rapped and rocked with us through the night!
Alive@5. Tonight. You down? The Justin Kalk Orchestra begins its tour de force through Frederick (they’ll be at Cafe Nola this weekend, too) by heading to the creek to rock and roll and then rock some more. Here’s their clip for “The Dirty Thing.” Adjust your Thursdays accordingly.
Yep. That’s about it. A random jam session, this is. Or, as the cutline reads, “From left, Dan Wilson, Kirk Evans, and Charlie Cottingham perform during an informal music session outside City Hall in Frederick. ‘Just friends out picking,’ said Wilson, adding that there are fewer mosquitos at City Hall than at their respective homes.” And a happy Wednesday to you, too. Photo by Graham Cullen. He’s amazing on all of our video work, and you can follow him on Twitter here.
We took this video quite a while ago at Church Street Pub, when the Last Saturdays hip-hop extravaganza was in full effect. And because we are holding a Block Party featuring this guy on Saturday night at the 200 East Art Haus … well, what better time than now to share it again? There’s going to be a lot of stuff. We’ll outline it later today. So … see you there, right?
It might not be the best photo we’ve ever posted, but here’s a shot of the Matthew Gillich Trio performing two Saturdays ago at Big Cork Vineyards. It was part of Jazz In The Vines, a series we helped coordinate with the winery. Gillich opened for Jeff Cosgrove, and as you can see from this photo, a good time was had by all. More Jazz In The Vines dates are in the works, but for now, let’s point out that it’s officially Block Party week here at Frederick Playlist. And you best believe we’ll be back later today with something to remind everyone of as much. Jazz. Hip-hop. We got it all.
There are only a handful of Alive@Fives left, and tonight is one you won’t want to miss. Mark DeRose is set to come to town, unless a monsoon descends upon Frederick, Maryland (and according to The Weather Channel, it won’t). In light of tonight’s performance, here’s a clip for “All My Life,” as performed by the Mark DeRose Band. Thank God it’s Thursday. Block Party Week is almost here!
