Today’s video comes from Mechanical River and their Buzzsession for “I Need Love.” Why do we post that? Because Mechanical River are opening for Hurray For The Riff Raff this Saturday on Flying Dog’s front lawn. And in case you forgot, we are giving away two free tickets to see Mechanical River and Hurray For The Riff Raff all week on Frederick Playlist! All you have to do is sign up. Nothing is better than free, friends. Nothing is better than free.

We’re going to start the day with this photo of Heavy Lights at the Maryland Craft Beer Festival last month. Heavy Lights, if you remember, opened for Real Estate at one of last year’s Summer Sessions on Flying Dog’s front lawn. And, in case you were wondering, yes, we will again be at all of this year’s Flying Dog Summer Sessions shows, giving away koozies, introducing some bands, and chatting with all the fine individuals who are kind enough to stop by and say hello. But we’ll have more on that later. For now, just gaze at these pretty, lovely people. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Today’s video? Check out Katie Powderly’s official clip for “Tables, Turning.” Why post this on Thursday, June 11, 2015? Because on Saturday, June 13, 2015, Ms. Powderly will be headlining the first-ever Lettuce Jam in Middletown. Plus, we had a Q&A with Southern Charm yesterday, so why not give everybody one final reminder of what Mr. Gude has going down this weekend by posting this video? Sound good? Good. You can find all you need to know about the event here, and for those looking for a music schedule, click here. Saturday is only two days away, friends. You wouldn’t want to sit at home on such a beautiful weekend, you know.
Today’s photo comes from WTMD’s latest First Thursdays installment, which went down last Thursday and featured The Lone Below, Rubblebucket and The Districts. The series takes place in Baltimore’s Canton Waterfront Park for free each first Thursday of the month. The next concert, obviously, is slated for July 2. Details, though, are unavailable. Also of note: The Districts are from Lititz, Pennsylvania. So, let’s hear it for Pennsylvania! Happy Hump Day. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. We thought we’d post this video of Jack Funk funkin’ it up at The Cellar Door as part of an open mic night, why? First, because it’s Tuesday and The Cellar Door’s open mic goes down tonight (as you should already know from our Open Mic Week). But second, because … well, these guys said they will be kind enough to drop by the Downtown Frederick Partnership‘s Move Night On The Creek on the series’ kick-off night, July 24! If you remember, last year, we had the great dudes in Old Indian and The Knolly Moles perform for all the lovely faces, along with Pete Goodwin and Todd C. Walker. This year, the series has expanded to six events, which means … well, it means double the fun. Duh. Anyway, Jack Funk is set to kick things off along the creek Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m. The movie that night? “Jurassic Park.” You’re excited. We’re excited. Frederick is excited. Happy Tuesday!
We’re going to start the week off with this photo of Red Sammy at the Maryland Craft Beer Festival on May 30. And you know what? Those guys are The Best. They don’t take what some silly nincompoop says too seriously, they always seem to maintain a strong sense of who they are, and they work relentlessly. They work so relentlessly, in fact, that they recently posted a brand new song online (and they were even nice enough to email us about it!). As Adam Trice, the band’s leader said, “This song is the most sonic, high-fidelity, lush sounding song we have yet documented.” So, that’s impressive. Check it out here. We’ll be back in a little bit to talk a thing or two about a thing or two. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Saturday night. What’s up? Have you been to Cafe Nola lately? Because if you haven’t, you might want to check out The Judy Chops, who will be taking the stage along with Community Center on Saturday night. Hey: This video has more than 6,000 views and as Jay-Z once said, “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.” Or, something like that. Anyway, dig what you hear? Cafe Nola’s always up for welcoming in some fresh faces. There’s no better way to spend a Saturday night than live music, you know.
Well, here’s a photo of Rhin performing last Friday at The Opera House over in Shepherdstown. This would be a great time to remind you to tune into The Local Playlist, why? Because we played Rhin on the show last week as the great Cassandra Mullinix sat in for the entire two hours, playing some of her favorite local music. You, yourself, can listen every Friday on WSHC at about 1 p.m. Don’t care much for terrestrial radio? That’s OK, because you can listen online here. It’s a lot of fun. We promise. How about some country music on this rainy Tuesday? Check out the official video for Wesley Spangler’s “Three Beers Later.” Why? Because, as it goes, Mr. Spangler will be this week’s Alive@Five artist on Thursday, country-ing it up along the creek at about 5 p.m. (assuming the forecast for rain is wrong, of course). Either way, who can’t relate to a song called “Three Beers Later?” Don’t act like you haven’t been there.
Some of you might have noticed these tiny buggers floating around Saturday’s craft beer festival along Carroll Creek. What did they mean? Was 7/11 really an inside job? Why is there a skull on one side and the Frederick Playlist logo on the other? What’s happening on 7/11? Who shot JR? Why was it so hot? How does Flying Dog get a beer to taste like Old Bay? Who was that guy handing out beer koozies? These are all great questions. We’ll have answers soon. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix.
