Because if you can’t start the week off with the guy from Kix, then that week isn’t worth living. Check out Ronnie Younkins, who was the guitar player for Kix back in the day, as he performs recently at Cactus Flats. In cast you were wondering, yes, Kix was once featured on both “Monster Ballads: Platinum Edition” and “Leppardmania: A Tribute to Def Leppard.” Don’t close your eyes, friends. Don’t close your eyes. Well, you know we love us some Heavy Lights, and it just so happens that the boys in that fine band will be performing this evening at Cafe Nola with Austin, Texas, group Tinnarose. Thus, this look back at a picture from our launch weekend shows all the way back in June. Because who in their right mind wouldn’t want to see these sexy man-imals on a Wednesday morning? Points for the first use of “man-imals” on Frederick Playlist. It might be a school night, friends, but that doesn’t mean you can’t rawk (with a “w”). Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Well, here’s something new: Let’s kick off the week with this shot of the Brunswick High School marching band as they … marched (duh) … in the Brunswick Veterans Day parade last week. We do this why? Because tomorrow is Veterans Day. Obviously. Plus, that’s a pretty neat shot, right? Right. Now, don’t forget to thank people for their service today and tomorrow, should you find yourself in a situation where you can thank people for their service. Got all that? Good. Ladies and gentlemen. Children of all ages. Behold Wednesday’s photo, which features Chris Collins, who moonlights as … you guessed it … John Denver. He’ll be at the Weinberg on Saturday night and if this press photo doesn’t get those John Denver juices flowing, who knows what will. Yep. We’re just going to go ahead and leave that on the table before backing away. Slowly. To learn more about the show, click here.
We begin the week with a photo of Seaknuckle performing at Cafe Nola a few months ago. Why? Because those dudes are the best. That’s why. Plus, they are recording a record and when it comes out, it will melt your face. Happy Monday! Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. OK, so yeah. It’s not Jimmy Page. But … Halloween is coming up in two days and what better way to acknowledge it than to showcase this picture of somebody dressed up as Jimmy Page!? Get it?! Good. Behold a photo from Led Zepplica’s performance at the Weinberg a few weeks ago and then, once you’re done marveling at that, head out to Family Dollar and grab yourself a costume before it’s too late. Let’s start the week off with a photo of local kid-rockers Bad Seed Rising, who have been doing big things in pretty much every corner of the world. Here, they are rocking and rolling on the Shindig stage last month in Baltimore. If only our teenage years were nearly as awesome as these guys’ teenage years appear to be. Sigh. Check out today’s photo, which features Cameron “Telepathy” Ross performing at the first installment of the Last Saturdays hip-hop series all the way back in August. The third go-around is set for this Saturday at Church Street Pub, with Sean Toure headlining. Also on the bill? Jay Berd, Upgrade, CM Lugo, DJ Blaze Daily, Artistry Music Group and a ton of others who you won’t want to miss. It all kicks off at 9 p.m., right about the time Bela Fleck finishes up at the Weinberg. Oh, which reminds us: You know we’re giving away tickets, right? Photo by Graham Cullen. So, some of us stepped outside this morning and realized how unbelievably cold it was and thought, “Oh, wow. Summer really is over, isn’t it?” And then shed a tear that froze before it hit the nose. Anyway, to both commemorate and bid adieu to consistent temperatures in the 70s and 80s, we thought we would offer up this photo from the Hot August Music Festival a couple months ago, if only because it has the word “hot” in it. Behold an image of Brooklyn band Turkuaz, who has been known to play in and around the area from time to time. Just looking at this warms you up, right? Right. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Yes, it’s a press photo, but it’s still a photo nonetheless. Either way, we wanted to post this image today to remind you all that tickets are still, indeed, on sale to see the man in this photo perform on the Weinberg stage Thursday (tomorrow) night. And before you scoff and click elsewhere, just remember: This guy has been called the future voice of jazz for a little while now. Catch him while he’s coming up, not once he’s already there. Thank you. And you’re welcome.
