What do you say we start the week off with some love for this weekend’s 72 Film Fest? Those fine people have been invading the Weinberg for the last few days and even though we here at Frederick Playlist are contractually obligated to give you all music, all the time, we wanted to take at least a second or four to celebrate some fantastic local art that we have going on around town and tip our hat to the event. Plus, music and movies go hand in hand. Duh. So, here’s a quick shot of the crowd from Saturday to begin the week and if you click here, you can find out who walked away a winner. Photo Of The Day
Let’s head on back to The Shindig this morning with a photo of Fishbone working their way through that insanely awesome Baltimore crowd. Why? Because it’s Wednesday. And this is a good way to remind everyone that the weekend is nearly here. Kind of. Maybe. Either way, you get it. Because Fishbone are fun. Really fun. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. What better way to celebrate the Baltimore Orioles heading to the ALCS than to post this picture of The Oriole Bird along with J Roddy Walston and The Business at last weekend’s Shindig?! The answer? None. There is no better way. Duh. So, bring on those Royals, Hon! Or something. Anyway, if nothing else, check out Mr. Boh creeping in the back. Weirdo. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Oh, how cool is this photo? Come on, now. We mean, how cool is this photo?! Check out Dave Navarro performing with his band, some unknown rock thing called Jane’s Addiction, on Saturday at Baltimore’s Shindig. We’ll have more on the event later today, but for now … again: How cool is this photo? Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Hey, look. It’s Robert Plant! OK, no it’s not. But it’s the guy who pretends to be Robert Plant in the Led Zeppelin tribute act Led Zepplica. They were at the Weinberg on Saturday night and this here is a photo that can prove as much. Unless if you think that’s actually the guy from The Darkness, like some of us tend to believe. And in that case, all bets are off. Anyway, the above photo is by Karen Valentine.
Check out this shot of local hip-hop artist J Berd performing at August’s Last Saturdays hip-hop night at Church Street Pub. We’ll be posting a long Q&A with him and his crew later today, but for now, just know that the next installment is this Saturday. The words start floating through the air around 9 p.m. and if you aren’t there, you’ll be square. Photo courtesy of Graham Cullen. You can follow him on Twitter here.
Because if you have a photo of Styx, you darn well better use that photo of Styx. Check out Tommy Shaw and company as they performed on Saturday at the Great Frederick Fair. And then head over to read a tiny story regarding their time here in Frederick. Or, don’t. Hey, it’s your life. Anyway, we’ll also use this time to remind you that our final Flying Dog contest of the summer is live, so you can click over to that if you so choose. If not, rest assured we’ll have a post regarding the fun sometime in the very near future. Photo courtesy of Bill Green.
Let’s take a look back at Evan from Old Indian when the band performed at Flying Dog last month as they opened for J Roddy. Why do that on this Wednesday morning? Because in two days, those fine young lads are going to take to the Carroll Creek Amphitheater as part of the next Frederick Playlist Presents … show before the final Movie Night On The Creek of the summer. Oh, and better yet, they’ll have special guests. Come for the rock. Stay for the popcorn. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
We just couldn’t resist posting this photo from Saturday night’s Brantley Gilbert show at the Great Frederick Fair. Why? 1) Because we know for a fact that the photographer could have gotten himself killed for this shot. 2) Look at that wheel! And 3) We’re pretty sure Mr. Gilbert did not want his picture taken professionally after bringing out the guns and his camouflage top. Oh, and the concert? You can read all about it here. Photo courtesy of Bill Green.
Today’s photo is a courtesy photo, yes, and it doesn’t appear as though much is going on. But it’s Shane Gamble. And why is it Shane Gamble? Because he will be performing at 1:40 p.m. Saturday at the Going Green Block Beer & Wine Garden in the Carmack Jay parking lot as part of this year’s In The Street festival/event/traffic nightmare. As we said yesterday, we’ll be there, introducing some bands, handing out some stuff. So you should be there, listening to some bands and receiving some handed-out stuff. Right? Right.
