Photo Of The Day: Maryland Craft Beer Fest

Some of you might have noticed these tiny buggers floating around Saturday’s craft beer festival along Carroll Creek. What did they mean? Was 7/11 really an inside job? Why is there a skull on one side and the Frederick Playlist logo on the other? What’s happening on 7/11? Who shot JR? Why was it so hot? How does Flying Dog get a beer to taste like Old Bay? Photo Of The Day: Open Mic At Cafe Nola

What. You thought that just because it’s Memorial Day, we wouldn’t have things to share? Pshhhhhh. We’ve got tons to post this week and plus, don’t forget: It’s Open Mic Week! That’s right. A few weeks ago, some of us went around to various local mics in the area, and now finally, after what seems like forever, we are ready to roll out the photos, videos and absurdly long story to go with it all. We’ll be posting bits and pieces of the story all week and for those who might be interested in seeing the whole thing in print, you can also find it as the cover story in this week’s 72 Hours. But that’s still four days away. In the meantime (and in between time), check out this photo of the drummer Dave Bernet, who helped host the Cafe Nola open mic the week we visited. And why did we start with a photo of this guy? Because that dude is everywhere. No, like really: Dude. Is. Everywhere. Anyway, settle in, friends. Open Mic Week is in full effect!

To get us over this hump of a day, let’s look at this photo of Shannon Roberts from Tabasco Bustelo performing at The Opera House a few weekends ago. The performance was part of a set opening for The Hello Strangers over in Shepherdstown, and clearly The Opera House is a very pretty place. And because The Opera House is over in Sheperdstown, now might be a good time to remind you that you can tune in to 89.7 WSHC every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. to hear some local tunes rocking and rolling through the airwaves. It’s May now, so let’s start focusing on all the outdoor fun you can have this summer. As we said yesterday, our new playlist (below and to the right of these words) features some of the many bands you can check out as part of this year’s Alive @ Five series on the creek, which kicks off next week. Also happening this summer? The Red Wing Roots Music Festival at Natural Chimneys Park in Mount Solon, Virginia, on July 10, 11 and 12. The Steel Wheels are the host band, so we thought we’d share this shot from them at the Weinberg’s Americana Fest a couple months ago. It’s Wednesday. The sun is out. The temperatures are rising. It’s 10 a.m. There is only one day left of April. And, as you know well enough by now, we love us some Hello Strangers. So, check out this photo from their performance at the Opera House in Shepherdstown on Saturday. By all accounts, the show was fabulous, the Strangers were awesome, and the Opera House is still one of the great venues around.
