With April nearly gone and May marking the unofficial official start of the festival season (kind of), we thought we’d flash back to a few weeks ago when the great Cassandra Mullinix went to MACRoCK, took some photos, and clued us in on some of the things she learned. So … how about we take a look at the above photo of Eskimeaux performing as part of the Harrisonburg, Virginia, gathering? Sounds good? Good. Only three more days of April, friends. Will May bring its usual flowers? That’s quite the question. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Photo Of The Day
Some of us have been scouring the streets of Frederick County for the last week, wandering in and out of open mics. More on that in a few weeks. In the meantime (and in between time), check out this photo, which came from the beginning of our travels at Beans In The Belfry last Thursday. It’s a little Signs Point East mixed with a little Willie & The Chaperones. Oh, the things you can learn in Brunswick on a Thursday night. Happy Hump Day, friends.
It’s Monday, April 20, which means one thing: We can officially start thinking about spring. Why? Who knows, but at least it’s not 55 degrees anymore. Anyway, with the warm weather and May right around the corner, we thought, “What better time to reflect on good times in the summer than right now?” Thus, this photo. Plus, we got to thinking about how awesome it was last year to hang out at those Flying Dog shows and it got us excited to see who might be on this year’s slate. And who can better embody the greatness of it all than J Roddy? Our thoughts, exactly. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Remember the Weinberg’s Americana Fest? Holy cow, it seems like forever ago now. Here’s a photo from the first night of this year’s installment that profiles the great Nora Jane Struthers. Dr. Michio Kaku will be speaking there tonight … but the event is sold out, so for now, just enjoy a photo of what it’s like to actually be in the place. Besides, the Americana Fest is much cooler than listening to some doctor speak, right? Don’t answer that. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Let’s start the week off with this photo of Kenny Tompkins at MACRoCK earlier this month. You know who Kenny Tompkins is, right? He’s in New God. And New God has a great album out. So, you should stream or purchase or bootleg or whatever you need to do in order to check it out. Why? Because your life will be better for it. A happy April 13 to all, and to all a good morning. Today’s photo takes us back to the Americana Fest once again with this shot of The Steel Wheels performing on the first night of festivities. Hey, did you all know they grew up in Mennonite families? Their website says so. That’s interesting. Anyway, check this out and allow it to remedy the Rainy Middle Of The Week Blues that some of you might be having. We’re only two days away from the weekend, remember. And that’s got to count for something, right? Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. And a Happy Easter to you, too. We’re still getting our legs back from Old Indian’s vinyl release party, though as we gather ourselves, check out this photo from the Weinberg’s Americana Fest last weekend. Big Hoax, ye of Frederick Playlist Presents … fame, kicked the whole shebang off, and we have a picture of it. Obviously. A happy Monday to all and to all a goodnight. This Saturday. The Faux School. Old Indian. Time Columns. Wish List. And Heavy Lights, who you can see perform at our Frederick Music Showcase last month at the Weinberg Center in the above photo. Ran into Ryan yesterday, actually, and he shaved! So, when you see him this Saturday, he might look a little different. Same sexiness. Smoother face. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. So … you know what Saturday is, right? Right?! RIGHT?!?! It’s Old Indian’s vinyl release show at The Faux School! We announced it last month and this week, we’ll be catching up with a few of the artists set to perform at the concert this weekend. To commemorate such an event, we figured we would post this photo from our Showcase last month at the Weinberg. Look at Evan. It’s as though his eyes are saying, “Come to our show. Or I will slit your leg.” Hey. It’s your life, people. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Hey, did you see our live stream of “The Voice”‘s Paul Pfau yesterday?! That was pretty fun. You can still watch an archived version of his performance if you just click play, so you ought to check it out. Speaking of video, we’ll have video of Big Hoax up later this week. And speaking of Big Hoax, they will be at the Americana Fest this weekend. And speaking of the Americana Fest this weekend … The Hello Strangers will be there, too! Whew. That was a lot of dots to connect. Remember: There’s still time for you to enter to win free tickets for the event at the Weinberg. There will be so much greatness. You will not want to sit it out.
