Whew. Did you catch our live stream of Big Hoax on Friday? Hopefully. If you didn’t, we’ll have some videos ready to post this week. In the meantime (and in between time), check out the official poster for this year’s Americana Fest. The festivities kick off Friday night with … you guessed it … Big Hoax, at the Weinberg Center. We’ll be giving away some tickets this week, so don’t be afraid to come on back, now, yah hear?
Photo Of The Day
See those drums? Those are Chris’s drums. He’s in Heavy Lights. And this is a view of how the Weinberg looked as everyone was filing out at last month’s Frederick Music Showcase. Why post this today? Because as it turns out, the great Cassandra Mullinix is dispatched down south with the fine young men in Heavy Lights as they get ready to invade South By Southwest. We’ll have an update from her and their stop in New Orleans later today. For now, though, check out this neat view from behind the drums on the Weinberg stage. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Hey, why not give some love to the Heartly House? They, as their website says, “provide comprehensive services for victims and survivors of domestic violence, rape/sexual assault and child abuse.” And that’s a pretty noble thing, no? Thus, check it out as the great Anthony Owens donated his space at our Showcase a few weeks ago to those fine people to help spread the word about their cause. Here’s a virtual thumbs-up for all involved! Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
So, did you reset your clocks? Let’s hope so. It gets darker later now, and that’s got to count for something, right?! Right. Anyway, check out this photo from our showcase a few weeks ago. It’s the crowd in the lobby, hanging out, drinking some local adult beverages, mingling, smiling and loving life. Or, well, presumably loving life, at least. We spy Todd C. Walker acoustic-rocking and rolling in the top corner. Where are you? Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
So, how great is this thing?! Check out this cake (along with cupcakes that spell out pretty much everything you needed to know about our Frederick Music Showcase) given to us by local awesome people Cakes To Die For. It was on display, and available to eat, at the showcase, which happened precisely two weeks ago today. Not only does it look neat, but it tasted incredible. Take our word for it. Whew! Really needed that week off, right? Right. Now, with the arrival of March, we ease our way back into things with a photo from our Frederick Music Showcase that went down at the Weinberg last month. We’ll have more on the event in a few minutes, but for now, check out Old Indian, who closed out the show in fantastic fashion. Photo by Bill Green. He’s got the greatest voice in the world and you can follow him on Twitter here.
Can you even believe they’re going to let us in the Weinberg tomorrow night? Like, really, though. They even put us on the marquee! Thus, this photo (because no, in case you were wondering, there isn’t a new local band called “The Weinberg Marquee” … yet … and this isn’t a photo of said band performing). We’re one day away. There’s still time to get your tickets either at the Weinberg box office or online. Using a word like “excited” doesn’t even come close to doing this thing justice. Photo by Sam Yu.
What. Did you expect anything else? Welcome to Frederick Music Showcase week! It’s all going down Thursday night at the Weinberg. 10 bucks. Old Indian. Heavy Lights. The Knolly Moles. Hard Swimmin’ Fish. We were out and about all weekend, selling tickets and catching up with Hard Swimmin’ Fish, Seaknuckle, and all the great people that we encountered in between. If the impending snow allows, we’ll also be at Cafe Nola tonight for its open mic night, selling tickets, being annoying, and catching up with all the beautiful Frederick faces. Remember: You can get your tickets here. Remember (part two): It’s only 10 bucks. T-minus four days!
This is the only photo anybody ever really needs to see when they want to know about what it’s like to spend a day in the studio with Seaknuckle. Behold lead singer Jon Phelps, filled to the brim with PBR, Combos and 7-Eleven pizza, laying down on the floor after initially taking refuge on the bed. At least he looks comfortable, right? We’ll be back this afternoon with our final installment of our Seaknuckle series. T-minus 48 hours until they rock Cafe Nola’s Converse off.
Come one, come all. Welcome, everybody, to Seaknuckle Week here at Frederick Playlist! Those guys will be at Cafe Nola on Friday, celebrating the digital release of their EP, “Nailed It,” and we recently spent a day in the studio with the band as they put the finishing touches on their first LP. We will be chronicling that day this week with exclusive photos, videos, and a three-part story focusing on their studio work, all the while leading up to Friday night when they take the Cafe Nola stage. In the above photo, the band is working on pre-production of one of their songs. Check back later today for another Frederick Playlist Presents … session, as well as the beginning of our three-part series on Seaknuckle! Happy Seaknuckle Week!
