Isn’t it fun to look back in time? Especially now, in the dog days of winter, when it’s cold and hopeless and windy and dark and … yeah. Anyway, check out this photo from last April. It features presumably warmer times as well as the Baltimore band Crimson Wave as they grayscale-rock the Bentz Street Raw Bar. Word has it Ghost Hotel, Dead Monks and Wild Honey were on the bill, too. Cue the music as we say what we always like to say in these times: Memories. Oh, memories. Photo Of The Day
OK, OK. So, we know the photo isn’t all that great. But when you head out to the Church Street Pub on a Saturday night in January to take in the sights and sounds of the Makeshift Deluxe crew’s Last Saturdays hip-hop night series … well, you need remind the people of the world how imperative it is that they get hip, and they get hip now. Thus, this photo. We’ll be back in a few hours with a brand new Frederick Playlist Presents … session featuring one of the bands who will be taking the Weinberg Center stage on February 19. Who says Mondays can’t be fabulous?! That’s what we thought.
Check this out, friends. Here’s a photo from nearly a year ago – in March, 2014. It features New God, who may or may not be a subject for an upcoming Q&A we are getting ready to publish here in the next week or two. OK. Who are we kidding? A Q&A with New God will be up next week. Duh. Anyway, for now, check out this shot from their performance at the Church Street Pub last year. Memories. Oh, memories. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Hey, there. How was your weekend? Good? Good. Some of us spent the entirety of Saturday checking out what the fine young men in Seaknuckle were up to. Turns out, they are wrapping up recording for their first-ever full-length record and it turns out that spending a day in the studio with them is the single greatest way a person can spend a Saturday. There will be much more on this in the coming weeks, but for now, check them out as they rehearse a song before laying down some drum tracks. As those dudes would say: Nailed it.
Hey, tomorrow is Thursday. Do you have any plans? Because if you don’t, you ought to check out OMG 2.0, who will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walkersville at about 7 p.m. This photo? It’s of them rehearsing at something called Yellow Cow Studio. Oh, and for those of you fluffing and puffing at the name – it actually doesn’t mean what you think it means (maybe). Instead, they claim it’s the first letter of each band member’s last name. Simple coincidence? We may never know. Photo by Sam Yu.
It’s all Chopin all the time on this unseasonably not-cold-as-hell January Monday morning. This photo right here looks at pianist Brian Ganz as he rehearses before launching into his “All-Chopin” concert at Calvary United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. Hey – some people like Charli XCX. Some people like Chopin. You say tomato. We say tomato. Wait. That phrase doesn’t really work in print, does it? Anyway. Check back later today. We’re going to have some neatness coming your way. Photo by Bill Green. He’s got the greatest voice in the world and you can follow him on Twitter here.
Today’s photo comes from our launch weekend, all the way back in June 2014. It features The Knolly Moles. Obviously. Why would we be posting this on the 14th of January in the year 2015? That’s a good question. The reason is this: We felt it proper to remind everyone that on Thursday, February 19, we are holding the first-ever Frederick Music Showcase at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. The Knolly Moles will be there. In fact, so will Hard Swimmin’ Fish, who you can check out on our latest playlist to the right of these words. Tickets will be on sale soon, and as you’ll hear us say many, many more times for the next month or so, you won’t want to miss this. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Sometimes, it’s the middle of January. And sometimes, it’s really icy. And sometimes, it’s really cold. And sometimes, you want to remember that nice, calm, warm weather actually still exists in this world. So, behold today’s photo, which harkens back to the Hot August Music Festival last summer and the great Old Crow Medicine Show rocking and rolling through some tunes. Remember: It’s almost spring! Ok. Not really. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. For more of her photos, visit https://www.facebook.com/bucketofrock.
Well, first, you should read this. Second, you should check out the great Scott Ambush rocking and rolling at the Weinberg Center recently. Third, with him in mind, you should read this. And then fourth, you should check back here later today for a ginormous announcement that involves the aforementioned Weinberg Center. Happy Hump-Day! Photo by Bill Green. Whew. That sure was a holiday break, now wasn’t it? To get back into the swing of things, behold a photo of Deanna Bogart as she performs at the Weinberg sometime within the last couple weeks (though to be fair, “last couple weeks” in this context sort of feels like “about eight-and-a-half years ago”). We’ll be back later today to post the 2014 best-of, year-end list. Because … well, because that’s what we do. Photo by Bill Green.
