Well, hey there! How are you? Ready for Christmas, right? Let’s hope so. Ms. Deanna Bogart is going to be at the Weinberg on Saturday, so we thought we’d share this press photo. It’s being called the New Year’s Eve Eve Eve She-bang. So, consider this the Christmas Eve Eve Eve Photo Of The Day. Boom. Tickets are still on sale. They would make great stocking stuffers!
Photo Of The Day
We have eight days until Christmas and it’s an unseasonably warm day. What does that mean? That means we celebrate by looking back on one of the great nights this summer offered: The second Flying Dog show that featured Lucero and Brooks Long and the Mad Dog No Good. Boy, doesn’t it seem like that was years ago by now? That was rhetorical. Just think: Only half a year until summer! Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Yeah, if you haven’t noticed by now, we’re just going to go ahead and lead off each week with a different holiday-themed weekend photo. Because if you can’t get up for Christmas … well then you have no soul. For today, check out guest conductor Andrew Rosenfeld as he directs members of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra during the Holiday Pops concert Sunday on the Frederick Community College campus. Ten days until Christmas. A matter of hours until Hanukkah. And only a 120 minutes until lunch. Oh, holidays. The photo is by Graham Cullen. You can follow him on Twitter here.
We thought we’d reach into our bag of gifts (read: archives), considering how Christmas is two weeks and one day away. Lo and behold, when we reached into Santa’s sack (yeah, how about that phrase), we pulled out this black and white shot of Ghost Hotel at the JoAnn Garrett Classic from the summer. And just as a reminder: Ghost Hotel is pretty great. They played at the Ottobar on Sunday and you – yes, you! – should have been there. Photo courtesy of Cassandra Mullinix. Well, this sort of writes itself. Check out The Wizards of Winter, who performed at the Weinberg on Thursday. What did they perform? They performed holiday music from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (as well as a few of their own songs, but really – who’s counting?). For those wondering, no, the man with the microphone is not Vince Neil. To our knowledge, at least. One more time: This photo is worth a million words. Photo by Bill Green. He’s got the greatest voice in the world and you can follow him on Twitter here.
Hey, how did you spend your morning? Some of us were blasted on Twitter for ripping apart Mary J. Blige’s new record. Others looked at the barn schedule that Wolf Trap sent in the mail yesterday. And if you looked at that schedule, you would find that Eileen Ivers will be there sometime next year. The good part? You don’t have to wait that long to see “the Jimi Hendrix of the violin” (as The New York Times is wont to say) because she’ll be at the Weinberg on Friday. And to think: You thought Wednesdays were just made for hump talk! The photo is by Mel DiGiacomo.
Hey, if you can find a better way to celebrate the first day of December … well, Godspeed to you. Because when something called Tuba Christmas comes to the Weinberg – and you actually get a photo of it – you darn well better use it. And you darn well better use it right away. Besides: 83 musicians turned up for this thing. And they hardly even rehearsed. So, if that doesn’t say “Happy Holidays!” with an exclamation point, then to hell with the world. Photo by Sam Yu.
Yeah, you knew this was coming. Our final photo of the week features the fabulous Blind Boys Of Alabama, who will be at the Weinberg on Friday. Why? Because we need to remind you once again that we are giving away two tickets to see the group. And if you mean to tell us that there’s a lower number of people who want free tickets to see the Blind Boys Of Alabama live than there are fingers on hands … well, then we are here to tell you humankind is worse off than we thought (or something along the lines this guy would tweet because yes, we are still laughing at something from yesterday). Don’t forget: The contest ends Friday morning and we’ll be in touch if your name is drawn.
First thing’s first (I’ll eat your brains, said Nicki Minaj, once): We’re going to shut it down on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week. Why? Because Thursday is Thanksgiving. And who’s kidding who here – we can’t compete with a holiday aimed at eating and drinking ourselves into a coma. Actually, we can’t really compete with anything, now can we? Anyway, so there’s that. Now take a look at this photo of “The Last Waltz” performance that went down last night at the Weinberg. For those wondering, Ms. Heather Sutton won our ticket giveaway last week, so we hope she had fun as she rocked and rolled into the late afternoon on a rainy Sunday. Also of note: We’ll be launching another giveaway in a few hours, so check back in to see what’s next. Photo by Graham Cullen. You can follow him on Twitter here.
Today’s photo is a press photo of Mrs. Julia Nixon, who will be in town on Sunday as part of a performance of “The Last Waltz.” Also in the photo are other people involved in recreating “The Last Waltz.” You can win tickets on this very site to see “The Last Waltz” performed in full at the Weinberg on Sunday. In conclusion, we have completed our goal of using the phrase “The Last Waltz” in every sentence in this post.
