When the parenthesis says “R&B, Soul, Funk, Rock,” you can always rest assured that we’ll be listening. And that’s what Cafe Nola’s website says to describe Mary-El, who will be performing there on Friday. Considering how it’s Tuesday, we thought we’d help get the word out sooner rather than later. Obviously. Anyway, check out this performance of “Agree To Disagree” and reconsider all of your Friday fun.
Video of the Day
You know what? We haven’t done a good job at giving some love to Cafe 611. Therefore: Today’s video. Here is Vital Remains with “Dechristianize.” These dudes have more than 44,000 likes on Facebook, so they win Facebook. They will also be at Cafe 611 tomorrow night with a slew of other bands. It appears as though these guys have no problem melting faces, so if you’re looking for something to do on a Friday night and you want your face melted … .
We’re still reeling from Saturday, but as for the current day … what’s up tomorrow night? Not A Planet is set to take the Cafe Nola stage. They’re from Ohio and they’ve opened for the Presidents of the United States Of American and Stone Temple Pilots. That’s impressive, right? Right. The fun starts at about 9:30 p.m. Get out and fight those midweek blues.
This could be the very last Video Of The Day in the history of Frederick Playlist. So, why not go out by posting a song from the band that will headline our biggest event to date? Check out this amazing version of “Heavy Bells,” because if this doesn’t get you inspired to come on down Saturday afternoon, then nothing will. T-minus 48 hours.
As you can imagine, this entire week will be devoted to Saturday’s first-ever Frederick Fall Fest. Among the bands performing? Heavy Lights. The event will be in conjunction with Flying Dog, so what better way to remind everyone of everything than to post this video of the band performing at Flying Dog Brewery last summer as they opened for Real Estate? Our thoughts, too. We’ll be back in a few hours with some goodies regarding this weekend’s event. You’re excited, right?
Check out this neat video of Bumper Jacksons performing “I’ve Got My Whiskey (I Don’t Need You)” for the Garage Video Sessions, which, as it turns out, seems to be a fairly cool series. We post this why? To bring attention, one more time, to our Q&A with the Baltimore Folk Fest people that we ran yesterday. Bumper Jacksons will be performing as part of the event in a few weeks and the event needs your help raising funds to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. So … help them! Duh. Anyway. Happy Rainy Tuesday!
Outside of this being a really, really great name for a band, these guys are going to be at Cafe Nola tomorrow night. Or, well, Friday night, if you fancy. And because this will be the final weekend of September … well, you really ought to consider making something of it. For now, though, listen to this and adjust your Friday night accordingly.
Hey, have you checked out our YouTube channel lately? We don’t talk about it much, but we occasionally upload a video or three in the darkness of the night and the videos chronicle some of the shenanigans we see going on in and around Frederick. Most recently, we posted the above video of The Milestones performing at the 200 East Art Haus here in town as part of our Block Party. Our next event is our biggest (and last for the year). October 10. J Roddy Walston & The Business. Heavy Lights. Old Indian. Seaknuckle. You have your ticket already, right?
Hey, did you know there’s a pretty big-deal country concert going on tonight along the creek? That’s right. Even though the official Alive@Five slate is done for the year, there’s one more event and it happens this evening. It’s called, creatively, Country Live On The Creek. It features the Brothers Osborne. Who are they? Well, duh. They’ve been touring with Darius Rucker and they are also about ready to go out with John Pardi. As we said: Big deal. Tickets are five bucks. It’s going to a beautiful night. What are you waiting for?
It’s the first Tuesday in months that we don’t have a video teasing an actual event that’s going on in the next three days … but we do have a video teasing an event that’s going on within the next four days! Behold our Frederick Playlist Presents … performance of “Wasting Time,” as performed by Karen Jonas. She will be at The Blue Side on Friday for your entertainment, and we were even thinking about possibly stopping by to say hello. Maybe. Maybe not. Either way, you should go!
