Check out the lyric video for New God’s “Firework” and then, because it’s already Tuesday and we know you need to start thinking about those weekend plans, head on down to Cafe Nola on Friday to see them in action as they share the stage with our dear friends in Heavy Lights. It’s pretty much going to be the best show that Friday, October 10, 2014, will ever see. And no, we wouldn’t lie.
Video of the Day
Check out this snippet of Old Indian covering Booker T. & The MGs’ “Green Onions” at our most recent Frederick Playlist Presents … event last Friday night on the creek. We post this, why? Because those fine young men will be performing at the Classic Electric 10-year anniversary show at Cafe Nola on Friday night along with Sloth Herder and Mind/Glow. It will be a pretty special evening. There’s no reason you should be missing out.
Why feature Joe Keyes again? Because this is the final Tuesday of the month, which means the Late Bloomer Band’s residency at Cafe 611 is coming to a close after this evening. Better yet, tonight’s performance features something called “Joe Dicey Does Zappa” and anybody, anywhere doing Zappa is always worth your time. The fun starts at 7 p.m. and the cost is $5. We ask it all the time, but it’s worth repeating: What else do you have to do on a Tuesday?!
Need a way to get ready for Saturday’s Flying Dog show featuring Real Estate? Check out this performance of the band’s third record, “Atlas,” that they recorded for NPR. Then, because there’s still a handful of hours left, click on over to our contest to win two free tickets to see them play on the brewery’s front lawn this weekend. Just think: It’s already Thursday!
Well, you aren’t going to find a better song title at 8:30 on a Tuesday morning, now are you? Check out a live performance of the Bats Dynamic String Band’s “Hobo Song” and then … wait for it … head on over to Cafe 611 tonight as they share the stage with Brokedown Hustlers as part of the Late Bloomer Band’s Tuesday night residency this month. Who says live music should be reserved for only weekends? Nobody, we tell you. Nobody.
Well, first because it’s Styx. Duh. Second because it’s “Grand Illusion,” and again: Duh. And third, because these guys will be rocking and rolling at the Great Frederick Fair on Saturday night and someone may or may not have talked to the guy who replaced Dennis DeYoung recently. So, while it’s not local, per se, it certainly has local ties, if only for this weekend. Welcome, friends. To the Grand Illusion. Happy Thursday!
It might only be a half-minute of it, but that doesn’t make it any less awesome. Plus, it’s a good way to remind you that if you’re so inclined, we’ve got some pretty great and pretty new videos up on our YouTube page. Dig what you hear? You can learn more about the band on Facebook or their very own website. Because if you don’t love ska, you don’t have a soul.
We continue our de facto In The Street Week here at Frederick Playlist with a video from country-music artist Jeremy McComb and his “This Town Needs A Bar.” And we do it for two reasons: 1. How great of a song title is that?!? And 2. He will be at the WFRE free country Second Street Stage on Saturday at 3 p.m. Don’t know anything about him? Check out what the event’s website says: After managing the biggest comedy tour in the country (Larry the Cable Guy/Blue Collar Comedy Tour), writing movie soundtracks and songs that have appeared on projects selling over 6 million units including 3 Nationally Charting Hits “Wagon Wheel,” “This Town Needs a Bar” and “Cold,” Jeremy McComb is a performer who has seen it all and now is bringing all those experiences to the stage. So, there’s that. Click play and listen to one of those three nationally-charting hits, friends. And a Happy Thursday to all!
Well, a happy rainy Tuesday to you, too. This should brighten things up a bit: Check out Jah Works perform “Shadow” in February of 2013 in Baltimore. And then, after that brings some sunshine to your day, head on downtown this weekend to check out the band when they perform as part of In The Street during the Up The Creek Party at Carroll Creek Amphitheater. Yes, they are set to hit the stage at 5 p.m. And yes, you won’t want to miss it.
Today’s Video Of The Day features one of New Orleans’ best-kept secrets, Glen David Andrews. And why would we feature one of New Orleans’ best-kept secrets on a website dedicated to music in Frederick, Maryland? Well, that’s because Mr. Glen David Andrews himself is coming to Cafe 611 tomorrow (Friday) night. Better yet, it will only cost you a tiny five-dollar bill to get in the door. It doesn’t get much better than some authentic, straight-from-the-bayou NOLA grooves, friends. You won’t want to miss it.
