Well, the Weather Channel says that “occasional thunderstorms are likely to begin at 1:45 p.m.” here in Frederick, but come hell or high water (as some of us learned last week) the Levitt Amp concert series will go down, if not along the creek, then at 15 Square, right across the street from the Weinberg. Some of us introduced Mary Ann Redmond last week (and even got some laughs … until the crickets came), and this week, Walker’s Run is going to bring their awesomeness to town. The show is free, remember. And shoot – even if it’s indoors, you can bring a chair to recreate that Carroll Creek feel. Or something. Either way, enjoy!
Video of the Day
Well, it’s only 10 a.m., but the hourly forecast for tonight says, bluntly, “scattered strong storms.” Still, the second installment of the Levitt Amp summer concert series is tonight along the creek and it’s scheduled to feature Mary Ann Redmond. The fun kicks off at seven and there will indeed be a volunteer who hasn’t shaved his face in far too long running around. There is a rain venue for the series, but, because memories only last so long, you’ll have to stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages as the day progresses to find out more information, should we have to move the venue. Got all that? Good. Now, happy Tuesday!
We’ll round out the week in videos with Hurray For The Riff Raff’s official clip for “The Body Electric.” It has more than 78,000 views. Be impressed. This also serves as a reminder that indeed we still have two tickets we plan on giving away for the concert on Flying Dog’s front lawn this Saturday. You can still enter. It’s easy. And it’s free. There is very little in life better than easy and free. And Hurray For The Riff Raff. And Flying Dog. And … you get it.
Today’s video comes from Mechanical River and their Buzzsession for “I Need Love.” Why do we post that? Because Mechanical River are opening for Hurray For The Riff Raff this Saturday on Flying Dog’s front lawn. And in case you forgot, we are giving away two free tickets to see Mechanical River and Hurray For The Riff Raff all week on Frederick Playlist! All you have to do is sign up. Nothing is better than free, friends. Nothing is better than free.
Today’s video? Check out Katie Powderly’s official clip for “Tables, Turning.” Why post this on Thursday, June 11, 2015? Because on Saturday, June 13, 2015, Ms. Powderly will be headlining the first-ever Lettuce Jam in Middletown. Plus, we had a Q&A with Southern Charm yesterday, so why not give everybody one final reminder of what Mr. Gude has going down this weekend by posting this video? Sound good? Good. You can find all you need to know about the event here, and for those looking for a music schedule, click here. Saturday is only two days away, friends. You wouldn’t want to sit at home on such a beautiful weekend, you know.
We thought we’d post this video of Jack Funk funkin’ it up at The Cellar Door as part of an open mic night, why? First, because it’s Tuesday and The Cellar Door’s open mic goes down tonight (as you should already know from our Open Mic Week). But second, because … well, these guys said they will be kind enough to drop by the Downtown Frederick Partnership‘s Move Night On The Creek on the series’ kick-off night, July 24! If you remember, last year, we had the great dudes in Old Indian and The Knolly Moles perform for all the lovely faces, along with Pete Goodwin and Todd C. Walker. This year, the series has expanded to six events, which means … well, it means double the fun. Duh. Anyway, Jack Funk is set to kick things off along the creek Friday, July 24, at 7 p.m. The movie that night? “Jurassic Park.” You’re excited. We’re excited. Frederick is excited. Happy Tuesday!
Saturday night. What’s up? Have you been to Cafe Nola lately? Because if you haven’t, you might want to check out The Judy Chops, who will be taking the stage along with Community Center on Saturday night. Hey: This video has more than 6,000 views and as Jay-Z once said, “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t.” Or, something like that. Anyway, dig what you hear? Cafe Nola’s always up for welcoming in some fresh faces. There’s no better way to spend a Saturday night than live music, you know.
How about some country music on this rainy Tuesday? Check out the official video for Wesley Spangler’s “Three Beers Later.” Why? Because, as it goes, Mr. Spangler will be this week’s Alive@Five artist on Thursday, country-ing it up along the creek at about 5 p.m. (assuming the forecast for rain is wrong, of course). Either way, who can’t relate to a song called “Three Beers Later?” Don’t act like you haven’t been there.
Sweet D. Are you familiar with him? If not, check back later, because we have a whole slate of open mics to get to as we cap off Open Mic Week. For now, though, check out his take on a classic Beatles tune from a performance he offered last month at the Blue Sky’s open mic. He was one of our favorites, if only because he was a good sport about it all. Oh, and Happy First Mean Comment Day!
Open Mic Week continues with this dark (but awesome) video of Andrew Bromhal, formerly of Silent Old Mtns., performing his old band’s “That Telescope Find” (but only after someone in the audience kept yelling for it … just saying) at The Cellar Door. If you’ve been out to any of the area local mics recently, chances are you’ve seen him pop up here and there to do some new tunes and a few old favorites. And if you haven’t seen him … well, consider this video a taste of what you might find if you happen to walk into any of the area’s open mics. We’ll be back later today with Tuesday’s installment of Open Mic Week. You’re excited, right? Let’s hope so.
