Of course we’re going to profile Old Indian with today’s video because of course we need to remind you, one more time, that a brand new episode of the For The Record podcast is now up and running. And within that new episode, you can find three – again, three! – new tracks from Old Indian’s upcoming record “Mumble.” So, have a look at this performance, click on over to listen to what the guys have to say about a wide range of topics, and get ready: Friday is almost here!
Video of the Day
Joint Effort is going to continue its December Tuesday residency at Cafe 611 tonight. Just in case you didn’t know. Joining them this week will be MH The Verb. MH The Verb performed at The Knitting Factory once. This is a video of that. Now, it should be noted that Cafe 611’s website is the place that lists MH The Verb as the supporting act along with Joint Effort. We’ve scoured the Internets to find out more about Mr. Verb, but none of his web presence suggests that he’ll actually be there tonight. So, do with that what you may. Either way, Joint Effort will darn sure be there, right? Right. And for only five bucks … really: What do you have to lose? Rock and roll.
Hey, what are you doing tomorrow night? Here’s an idea: How about you go check out Megan Jean and the KFB at Cafe Nola. Why? Because as Cafe Nola’s website explains, these guys “arrange a demented blend of americana, punk, dance, and the avant-garde that they’ve taken to describing as, ‘a metal band, if it was 1927.'” And if that doesn’t sound like a great way to spend a Friday night … well, now what does?
No, but really. Here’s a 2:16 clip of Hagerstown’s Secondhand‘s band practice from about a year and a half ago. Tonight, they’ll be part of Joint Effort’s residency at Cafe 611 that goes down every Tuesday in December. And why would anyone possibly want to miss it? Some sunshine-laden reggae vibes at the end of a dreary, cold December day is what we all need every now and then, right? Right. The show begins at 8 p.m.; five bucks will get you in the door.
Today, we go with this super neat live performance that Bumper Jacksons offered up for WAMU. Why? Because tomorrow night (that’s Friday, for those reading this any other day than Thursday) the group will be at the Opera House over there in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. And if you’re really looking to make it a long weekend in West Virginia, the great Chelsea McBee will be presenting another one of her fabulous First Thursdays series tonight when she takes the stage with Tony Denikos and Georgie Jessup. Shepherdstown, West Virginia: Your go-to source for awesome.
Today’s video features Steven Gellman running through one of Patty Griffin’s more notable songs, “Mary.” And why do we post this on Tuesday, December 2? Because on Saturday, December 6, Gellman will be at Beans In The Belfry (along with a few friends) to do Christmas songs. Or, well, at least he’ll be performing whatever this means: “Intensely sensitive and impressively intelligent, Steven Gellman will team up (with) talented Doug Poplin and Margaret Wolfe on cello and guitar to give us a warm wintery holiday concert by candlelight.” Biggest takeaway from that blurb: Aren’t we all intensely sensitive? Anyway, check this video out, taken from last year around the same time, grab one of those Christmas sweaters, make a holiday drink and adjust your Saturday evening accordingly.
Two days until Turkey Day and three days until this legendary group hits the Weinberg. Did you hear that we’re giving away two free tickets to see them? Because we are. And you really ought to consider it. Because we all know you won’t want to spend money on tickets after you blow it earlier that day on a huge flat-screen TV or something. Plus, our calculations put it at a 93.29 percent chance that they’ll perform this hymn at some point on Friday. Also, it should be noted that the unofficial officially unofficial official moment that the Christmas season kicks off is when the Blind Boys Of Alabama first perform “Amazing Grace” the day after Thanksgiving. This is a historical fact. Anyway, check out the video, enter the giveaway, and get ready for some snow.
With one last effort to spread the word about our giveaway, today’s video features “The Last Waltz” tribute performing “I Shall Be Released,” just like The Band and Dylan did. Or something like that. Remember: These fabulous people will be taking the Weinberg stage Sunday afternoon and you – yes, you! – can still win two tickets to see it all go down. It promises to be better than great and you should know by now that we wouldn’t lie.
Check out today’s video, which features the great Joint Effort performing in Baltimore at the Ottobar. Why show this? Because Tuesdays have seemingly become Cafe 611 Days and tonight, Joint Effort will be there with Higher Education and Cutting Agency. It’s five bucks to get in the door and the show is set to begin at eight. The weather might be cold, but Cafe 611 will be hot. Yeah, who didn’t see the end of that sentence coming?
Woke up this morning to find an email in the ol’ inbox from Doug at MD Tix about a show this weekend. What he forwarded along was the above video, which essentially serves as a de facto promo for a show this weekend at Cafe Nola. And who is going to be at that show? A brand new band called Fishwives. In fact, it’s their first performance. Why should you care? Because the trio features members of both Crack The Sky and Clutch. Yes, we know what you’re thinking: “Whoa, there. This is going to be incredible!” We know this because we’re thinking the same thing. So, have a quick look at the video above and adjust your Saturday evening accordingly. Please and thank you.
