For the 11th episode of the For The Record podcast, I went over to The Knolly Moles’ de facto band house and spent an evening with four of the band’s members. The Frederick group has been making waves lately, landing an opening slot for Ballyhoo in Silver Spring later this month and playing down at Baltimore’s Rams Head Live, one of the premiere music venues in the area. I love these guys. Never too serious and always bringing just the right amount of fun, they were kind enough to offer up three separate performances that you’ll hear, should you choose to click the Play button.
Among the things we discuss:
– How the guys met and what their intentions were when they started writing music together.
– What makes Frederick a great music city and what makes Frederick a frustrating music city.
– The trials and tribulations of heading into a studio to record for the first time. In addition to reflecting on their own first experience, the guys also offer up some advice for those looking to record some of their own music.
– And, of course, what’s next for the band and how they plan on sustaining a life in music along with holding down day jobs.
In addition to the shows they have coming up, The Knolly Moles are also going to be part of a launch party/launch weekend for a website I’m getting ready to unveil, aimed at profiling the Frederick music scene. Look for that to go down the first weekend in June as these guys headline a show at Olde Towne Tavern that Saturday. More details on those events are set to trickle out in the near future. For now, however, check out these great, fun, awesomely awesome dudes and settle in for a half-hour of some Mole-tastic talk. If nothing else, fast-forward through my silly voice and have a listen to the performances — you won’t be disappointed. Yes. A money-back guarantee is ensured.
