For the first podcast of 2014, the wonderful Chelsea McBee drove over from Shepherdstown, W.Va., to sit down with me for about an hour before providing some Frederick News-Post employees with a tiny three-song set on a chilly Friday morning. Currently leading an artist series at the Opera House in Shepherdstown, McBee, along with her band, The Random Assortment, released their terrific latest set, “The Whiskey Album,” right before Christmas. Two of the performances she offers up here are from songs that appear on that record while the third is a special treat you’ll have to click to hear.
Among the things we discuss:
– How she decided to pursue music as a career rather than a hobby.
– The difference between the music scenes in Frederick and Shepherdstown.
– Why it’s OK to play cover songs every now and then.
– And, of course, what to expect from the artist series she’s leading over at the Opera House (here’s a hint: A whole lot).
She’s the hardest working woman in show business (or, at least in Shepherdstown music), and her responses to my questions were both candid and introspective. Or, in other words, you don’t want to miss this.
